Jaden Smith may only be just past the knee-high-to-a-grasshopper phase of his development, but he knows how to make waves on the Internet. The 16-year-old son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith rolled into prom on the arm of Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg—and the Internet can’t stop talking about it.
The Karate Kid 2 actor wore a black tuxedo jacket with a white skirt, sneakers, and fingerless white gloves, while Stenberg, also 16, opted for a metallic halter dress and long braids. While Smith left a void in the Twitterverse when he left the social-media site a few months ago, Stenberg, who played Rue in the first film of the series, posted a few pictures of the event on Twitter and it has been a trending topic across the web ever since. (She also shared the photos on Instagram with the caption, “Here’s to high school.” Indeed.)
While social-media managers and digitally savvy editors are always on the hunt for the next viral topic, the machinations of the Internet are still a mystery. Case in point: Why is this story trending? This isn’t even the first time Smith has worn a dress in public. He’s an admitted fan of wearing “girl clothes, ” which isn’t especially surprising in these post-gender times. Back in April the noted free spirit was spotted wearing one while on a stroll around Calabasas, California, later tweeting (in title case, naturally), “That Moment When Your Wearing A Dress With No Pants And You Swerve Way To Hard.” (He learned his lesson for prom, wearing trousers under his skirt.) This isn’t even Smith’s first prom. He attended a different high school prom earlier this year and wore a white Batman suit, which merits some attention, because it was the only time in history that a wedding attendee has managed to repurpose an outfit.Find and compare best advertising software here
